Published On : 11 Aug 2017

Mangaluru: In yet another incident, where a person was tortured in a foreign land, a person from Beltangady Taluk who was working in Qatar for many years as a driver before facing untold miseries safely reached home with help from a youth organization.

Abdul Hamid from Killur Nada in Beltangady taluk could come back due to the help extended by members of Karnataka Cultural Foundation (KCF). Abdul, who was working in Qatar, had recently left his current job after getting an offer of higher pay from a local there. He bagged the job of the driver of a heavy vehicle and began to drive a trailer.

At the new place, he had to continuously work for about 20 hours every day as the owner said many drivers were on leave. He was to be at the service of the owner all through day and night. After some months went by, Hamid realized that he had become victim of cheating and told the owner that he wanted to go back to his country. But the owner refused to let him go.

Abdul's visits to Indian embassy and some other offices did not help him to address his problems. He then explained his predicament to people known to him and his friends living in neighbouring countries in the Gulf. After some KCF leaders came to know about it, they contacted KCF Qatar with a request for help. They got all documents ready in a week, got passport back from the company and sent Abdul Hamid home by flight.
