Puttur: Puttur fifth additional magistrate has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife one and half years ago. Bagirathi, wife of the accused was murdered at Bairaguri colony on April 11, 2016.
Rural police had arrested Vijay, husband of the deceased for murdering his wife. Both husband and wife were alcohol addicts. They had quarrelled on the day of the incident. The husband slit the neck of the wife with a knife. The wife succumbed to the serious injury.
Accused Vijay is sentenced to life imprisonment under section 302 and Rs ten thousand fine. On failure to pay the fine he will be liable to an additional six months in jail. The court has ordered for Rs 3,000 to be handed over to each of his three children out of the fine and compensation under section 357.
